Hiroshima

Yesterday, I arrived in Hiroshima. The city is mostly known for being destroyed by an atomic bomb at the end of World war II. The main point of interest here is of course the peace museum and the surrounding park, detailing the effects of the atomic bomb and commemorating its victims.

The Bomb dome, taken from one of the buildings that still stood after the bomb was dropped.

There was also some evidence of the damage wrought by the bomb, such as this eucalyptus tree, which survived the blast:

An this human, who didn't:

The Peace Museum did also have some good texts about the war. The narrative presented here compares rather favourably to what I remember of the War Shrine Yasukuni-Jinja in Tokyo. When I get to Tokyo I will be in a position to compare the two better.
